Main Features

RAILS ASRS is the result of a combination of advanced and patented systems with  the basic characteristics of various robotic technologies, engineering and computer solutions. The target is to complain at the best possible level with the management and storage of paper heritage.
The main feature of RAILS asrs , thanks to its extreme design flexibility, is the optimal and deep use of space, up to 12 times greater than any traditional system.
With RAILS under used or unusable spaces can be fully exploited.
The RAILS system, besides being customized to the very specific requirements of the environment, is a self supporting plant, therefore it respects fully the architectural features of the buildings
RAILS doesn’t need complementary and additional spaces normally  required by traditional deposits (spaces for elevators, manoeuvre rooms, safety distances, emergency stairs, air conditioning systems and illumination system, facilities for disabled personnel access, power off plant, etc.). In addition to the components listed in detail in the following paragraph, each system RAILS can be integrated with air treatment systems, to protect against dust, bacteria and external agents and to create a modified atmosphere, based on the principle of reduction of the oxidizing factor, decreasing the percentage of oxygen to below 15%.

Mobile stacks system: this vertical mobile structure contains the UDC (bins): they are custom made to fit with any size and shape of the building dedicated to host the ASRS installation.

UDC: are the bins stored inside the stacks in which the documents are contained. They come in different shapes and sizes in order to better fit materials of differing formats, dimensions, consistency, fragility, etc. They are made in different materials: plastic, steel, card board box.

Shuttle: this is the robotic carriage dedicated to the picking and delivery of the bins (UDC) containing the documents.

Extra loading attachment (backpack): the shuttle can be equipped with an attachment for carrying a dozen bins in order to interact with the crane assisting buffers. This unit allows the shuttle to optimize its work, as it can pick up and redeposit more bins during each browsing activity - allowing a larger number of activities per mission and saving time, power and optimizing the overall logistics.

Totem: from this unit the patron can question the system and browse the catalogue,, make picking requests and have access (also on a self service mode) to the delivery bay (distribution station).

Bay or delivery area: this is the place where the shuttle delivers the bins on demand for patron consultation. It can be placed on each floor of the building from the basement to the top floor. The bays can be located within the perimeter of the ASRS for the most convenient logistic.

Bay monitor: in order to assist the patron at the stage of picking the document, a video monitor lists the position of documents present in the UDC (bin). This helps the patron by allowing faster retrieval of the piece within the bin.

Laser assisted consultation bay: it visually pinpoints the exact position of documents requested to assist the patron in retrieving and depositing items in the bins.

Dust removal unit: this is situated in the storage area and is equipped with mechanical filters and vacuum devices with multiple intensity, to carry out periodical cleaning and dust removal services within the bins.

Pest control unit: pest control can be achieved by periodically removing oxygen from the environment. The process can be carried out either across the entire depository or limited to a dedicated shelf unit.

SDC sorting station: its function is to validate the introduction of the documents into the computerized storage system. The sorting station identifies each document by reading its physical data: height, depth, width, weight, volume and humidity. The cover of the document is photographed. Each item is given a unique serial number memorized in an RFID tag. This information is interfaced with the RAILS™ archive management software. In this way books, files, folders, maps, etc., will be sorted and stored in the best volume-saving stack, shelf and bin, making the most of the space available. The SDC is capable of detecting even minute changes in the physical condition of the documents once they have been returned. It can recognize the loss of 1 page out of 300. (Anti-theft and anti-vandalism check).
